PROCLAMATION.
Whereas by a Proclamation dated 28th December 1853, made in pursuance of the 85th Section of the Passengers Act 1852,* it was declared that the provisions and medicines supplied to Passenger ships should be in accordance with certain scales in the said Proclamation duly set forth, and whereas these scales have been found in some points unsuited to the wants of Chinese passengers, it is hereby declared that with respect to passengers being Chinese or persons accustomed to Chinese diet the supply of provisions and medicines for Passenger ships may in future be as follows.
PROVISIONS. MEDICINES, &c. Rice lbs. 1 per diem Calomel 8 Q2. Salted Provisions- Blue Pill 8 J2 wholly pork; or Rhubarb powder 16 pork and fish ; or Compound Jalap powder 19 pork, beef, and fish do. Ipecacuanha powder 12 Salted Vegetables or pickles lbs. 2 do. Opium 4 Water, Imperial Quarts 3 do. Dovers' powder lbs. Firewood oz. do. Senna leaves 24 OZ. Tea } Blistering Plaister 6 Bottles. Or such amount of Provisions customari-ly used by Chinese as may in the judgment of the Emigration officer be capable of perfect preservation during the passage and be fully equivalent to this scale, Sulphur sublined 2 For every 100 passengers, and in like proportion for any greater or less number. Sulphur Ointment 2 yds. Linseed flour 3 Oz, Country soap 2 Castor Oil 2 Oil of peppermint 12 Adhesive plaister spread 12 Simple ointment 2 Jeremies' opiate 2 Cholera pills in phial 6 lbs, Sweet spirits of nitre 4 drams. Magnesia 16 Epsom salts 16 Oz, Chloride of Lime 16 Tartar emetic 2 Quinine 1 Antemonial Powder Extract of Colocynth Compound 2 oz. Carbonet of Ammonia Assafoetida 2 oz. Camphor Camphorated liniment 1 Set of amputating and other surgical instruments Prepared chalk 1 one ounce glass measure, Catechu 1 minim glass measure. Tincture of Opium 1 pestle and mortar (Wedgewood) Turpentine. 1 Set of weights and scales, (grains in box.) 1 Set of Common splints, Ringworm ointment Aromatic spirits of hartshorn 1 Silver Catheter. Cubebs powder 1 Spatula. Copaiba 1 Dressing scissors. Sulphate of Copper 1 Infusion box. Sulphate of Zinc 1 Quire of Country paper. Lunar Caustic 1 Penknife. Prepared Lint 2 Metal Bed pans. Cloth for bandages 2 Trusses for hernia, right and left. 2 Small syringes. English labels to be affixed. Or such other medicines, disinfectants, and medical and surgical implements as a duly qualified medical practitioner may certify and the Emigration officer may consider to be sufficient.Given under my hand and Seal of the Colony at Victoria, Hongkong, the 28th day of February 1855.
